Cano Negro Wildlife RefugeThis tour leaves at 8:00 a.m. from Tilajari Resort Hotel for Los Chiles, a small town close to the Nicaragua border. In route we pass through the most productive citrus and sugar cane plantations in Costa Rica. We arrive in Los Chiles at 9:45 a.m. for an exciting boat trip on the "Rio Frio" River that divides Costa Rica and Nicaragua. This trip will last approximately 3 hours.
This portion of the river is part of the Caño Negro Reserve that consists of a large lagoon. It extends 1,600 acres and is surrounded by another 18,000 acres of small lagoons and swamps.
Bird watchers and nature lovers from all parts of the world are drawn to the biological diversity of Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge, as most of these species can't be seen in other parts of the country. You will see monkeys (white face, spider, howler), sloths, pink flamingos, "garzas", caimans (similar to |
alligators), turtles, and approximately 60 additional species of birds that are common in
this unique reserve.
Caño Negro Reserve is a wildlife adventure that shouldn't be missed.
